Activities during the First Phase
During the first phase the Institute has tried to concentrate all its activities on the thematic areas suggested by the UGC. The research undertaken during the first phase has helped in identifying the research gaps under the two thematic areas which forms the basis of further research. These research gaps will be filled up during the second phase.
Accomplishments So Far
Ever since its inception in 2002, the Institute has made several accomplishments in the field of academics, research and extension. Some of these are:

- Three issues of Himalayan Studies Journal have been published

- More than fifteen databases have been compiled by the Institute (Click here for details)
- Institute rendered its consultancy expertise to Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (HPPCL) and carrying out Baseline surveys and Social Impact Assessment Studies for its Hydro-power projects.
- Established linkages with EARTHWATCH Institute, Altai State Technical University & Altai State Agrarian University, Russian Federation
- Establishing the collaboration with Russian Embassy
- Research Staff of the Institute has earned acclaim for the Institute at National and International Level by participating in seminars, workshops and conferences
