Welcome to the Department of Microbiology at Himachal Pradesh University! We are a vibrant and dynamic department, aimed at providing knowledge in the field of Microbiology and make the students skilled in this important field with dedicated efforts for the advancement of microbiology education and research. Our mission is to provide our students with the knowledge and skills they need to be successful in their careers, and to enable them to conduct cutting-edge research that will make a difference in the world. The Department of Microbiology was originally part of the Department of Biotechnology since 2007, but in order to provide better teaching, learning and practical skills to the students, an independent department of Microbiology was established in the year 2020. This reflects the growing importance of microbiology as a field of study, and our commitment to providing our students with the best possible education in this area which got more prominence during Covid Pandemic which affected one and all on this globe.

We offer the two year PG Degree course i.e. M.Sc. Microbiology and the research degree i.e. Ph.D. in Microbiology. Our programs are designed to give our students a strong foundation in the fundamentals of microbiology, as well as the skills they need to conduct independent research and with aim to emerge as successful entrepreneurs and contribute to the society through Make-in-India flagship programme of Govt of India.

The expert faculty available with us and with the help of other resource persons from our neighbourhood, who are experts in their fields, we are committed to providing our students with the best possible education. They are also actively engaged in research, and are looking for new ways to apply microbiology to solve real-world problems.

We are proud of our accomplishments, and we are excited for the future of the Department of Microbiology. We believe that our department is well-positioned to make a significant contribution to the field of microbiology, and we are committed to providing our students with the tools they need to succeed. Our alumni have made us proud through their achievements while working in various sectors and with independent department in place we aspire to grow fast and do better in future as well.
