To nurture formation, growth, scaling up of 300 business ventures by 2025.

BIC-HPU Priorities

1.     Identify and nurture entrepreneurs:Since the formal launch in 2017, BIC-HPU has incubated 30 start-ups with innovative products, services and technologies, working in domains of biotechnology, rural development, healthcare, livelihood and employment, technology and monitoring, lifestyle, waste to value, etc.

2.     Create social and economic value: BIC-HPU invests in enterprises, which have a potential of creating sustainable revenue models and impact social values.

3.     Promote women led social enterprises: BIC-HPU supports women-led startups to encourage the entrepreneur spirit in women, build bridges and alliances and enable equal opportunities for success.

4.     Build replicable social businesses: Social businesses which hold potential to lead to positive impact for a large number of beneficiaries and achieve scale are supported by BIC-HPU.

5.     Enhance access to products and services for the bottom of the pyramid: BIC-HPU helps accelerate the growth of businesses which offer innovative and socially relevant products and services for the bottom of the pyramid.

6.     Focus on sustainable livelihoods: The social enterprises that BIC-HPU supports are working towards creating jobs and employment options for vulnerable communities

Objectives

  • Provide a platform for setting-up appropriate, sustainable and scalable technological and social enterprises.
  • Identify innovative business ideas and entrepreneurs, including those that have evolved in not-for-profit organisations, academic institutions, and R&D institutions for setting up techno social business ventures as incubatees.
  • Provide optimal incubation support to incubatees, including through collaboration and networking with other entities in the incubation ecosystem.
  • Collaborate with financing institutions, funders/ donors and individuals for funding start-ups/ accelerators supported by BIC-HPU.
  • Nurture and provide consultancy support for setting-up of BIC-HPU incubation model/ incubation eco-systems to promote the start-up movement in India (including GoI initiatives such as “Make in India” and "Start-up India, Stand up India").
  • Develop appropriate infrastructure including state-of-the-art transitional R&D laboratories and equipment through collaborations.
  • Build alliances with government agencies, incubators, industry and academia internationally to create an enabling and inclusive ecosystem for techno-social business start-ups

Grants given to BIC-HPU

  • The center has been sanctioned a grant of 1.2 Crore out of which  Rs. 90.00 Lacs is for Infrastructure Development and Rs. 30.00 lacs for recurring charges for three years including stipend, OE, travel, salaries of staff, meetings, training and capacity building, national visits besides miscellaneous expenses by Industry Department, Himachal Pradesh. The BIC-HPU has following facilities:
  • In addition to the State funding, a special grant of Rs. 20 Lakh has also been sanctioned to BIC-HPU by the University, under RUSA for creating new facilities and to procure need based major and minor equipment for the incubatees.
  • Recently, BIC-HPU has also received funding of 3.15 Crore from DPIIT to the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) under the Startup India Seed Fund Scheme. The Startup India Seed Fund Scheme has been introduced to address the need for easy availability of capital for the budding entrepreneurs during the early stages of enterprise growth.
