Dr. Tarun Sharma presently working as Assistant Professor (ECE), UIT, Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla (A State Government University) and works with research collaboration with various university of world such as Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (South Korea) (QS world rank 39), Shenzhen University, Shenzhen and Tianjin university (QS world rank 429), Tianjin China, Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee (QS world rank 383) and Queen's University at Kingston (QS World rank 246).
He has more than 10 years of experience of teaching and postdoctoral work in reputed national and international institutes of the world such as Center for Nano Science and Engineering, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore (India), Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (South Korea). During his post doc, he worked on various projects related to Plasmonic and Si Photonics based devices. Also, he used LUMERICAL FDTD and COMSOL for simulation of hybrid plasmonic, active and passive Si photonic devices and facilitate the process of fabrication. The work on fabrication and simulation of grating coupler based on Si photonics was also carried out by him. He has one year working experience in Class (100) and class (1000) clean room. He can independently access the EBL-Line and Pioneer writing, RIE-F/Cl, PECVD, wet bench, optical lithography, SEM, AFM and FIB for fabricating nano scale photonic devices. Moreover in clean room, he focused on fabrication of Silicon nitride based multilayer structure and developed a- Si/SiN/a-Si based multilayer device for polarization.
He has 15 SCI papers (10 published 5 under review) and 5 international conference papers. He also guided many M.Tech thesis and taught various subjects to B.Tech (ECE) and M.Tech (ECE) students such as fiber optic communication, mobile communication, wireless communication, digital electronics, optical networks and others. He completed his Ph.D. (ECE) from Thapar University (QS world rank 620), Patiala, Punjab, India in November 2016 and worked on “Hybrid Plasmonic-Photonic Waveguides for On-chip Nano photonic Devices”. During Ph.D, he did numerical analysis of mode hybridization of hybrid plasmonic waveguide and studied the effect of higher order nonlinearity.
He completed his M.Tech (ECE) from Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, Punjab, India. For accomplishing the M.Tech research work, he worked in Central Scientific Research Organization (CSIO), Chandigarh and worked on the topic entitled “Design, Fabrication and Characterization of Long period grating for Chemical Sensor”. During M.Tech, he dealt with fiber etching and characteristics of LPFG.
He acts as reviewers of various journals such as IEEE Sensors, Laser and Photonics review, Applied Optics, Optics communication and many others. In addition to the teaching his other academic responsibilities included AICTE affectation and grants from the various funding agencies for UIT. He received postdoctoral fellowship awards from the CeNSE IISC Bengaluru, KASIT South Korea, and Institute postdoctoral fellowship from IITR Roorkee.
