Prof. Kiran Rekha

Dr. (Mrs.) Kiran Rekha, has been Professor - Director from October 2014 to December 2018, UGC–Human Resource Development Centre of Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla. She is Professor since 2008 after her eighteen years contribution to the teaching profession in higher education. Dr. Kiran Rekha became Associate Professor during 2000 in UGC-Academic Staff College/Human Resource Development Centre (HRDC) where she had joined as Assistant Professor in February, 1995. She began her career in teaching from 1990 as Assistant Professor of Zoology in Department of Biology, MCM DAV College Kangra (HP).  She used to take practical classes of M.Sc. Zoology during her research period in Dept. of Biosciences, H. P. University. She is Ph.D. in Zoology (1991) on process of regeneration in chick gastrocnemius muscle from Animal Physiology laboratory of the University. She has scored first divisions throughout the board and university examinations and first class first positions in M.Sc. (Gold Medal) and M.Phil (Gold Medal). During student life she has been on merit list always with award of numerous prizes and scholarships. On completing M.Sc. she qualified JRF-NET (UGC) in 1984 for 5 years of M.Phil. and Ph.D. research work. She has been continuing research in education field related to HRDC curriculum alongwith having teaching experience of 29 years. Prof. Kiran Rekha continues improvement in the innovative methodologies developed in the schedule of HRDC courses, as a result of continuous teamwork and teaching-research experience since the pioneering period of this Institution dedicated to fulfill the mission of academic enrichment among college and university teachers.

Prof. Kiran Rekha has publications on diverse topics viz. outcomes of HRDC courses, Environmental issues, Personality Development and Management, Higher Education and Teaching-Learning process. She has compiled reading materials for Orientation Programme and Interdisciplinary Refresher Courses. She has submitted a project on campus diversity study sponsored by the Ford Foundation. She is actively involved in management and organization of all the courses, in addition to co-ordination of Orientation Programmes & short term Courses for teachers, chairpersons, administrators and college principals organized by UGC-Human Resource Development Centre, H. P. University. She was one of the member of co-ordinating team of All India Directors’ Meet where rigorous discussion and interaction sessions were presided over by UGC chairperson, highlighting the role of HRDs in quality contribution to higher education. She has been invited as resource person for Orientation Programmes and Refresher Courses in Human Resource Development Centres belonging to Universities of Chandigarh, Punjab, Haryana, Gujrat, Maharashtra and Benaras Hindu University. She has delivered guest lectures on Environment, Personality Development, Management and Education in SCERT, Solan, Guru Teg Bahadur Institute of Engineering and Technology, Muktsar (Pb), M & M institution of education, Hamirpur and Dronacharya College of Education, Rait, Kangra (HP) respectively. Prof. Kiran Rekha has made presentations on various activities and achievements of UGC-HRDC during NAAC Team visit in H.P. University and recently in interaction meeting of Directors with review committee held at ‘Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg’ office of University Grants Commission, New Delhi. She has been member of various committees, interview panels, examinations and editorial boards. She is the chief editor of annual journal “Academe” ISSN: 2229-6581 published by Human Resource Development Centre, HPU, Shimla. She has been warden of ‘Rani Laxmi Bai Girls Hostel’ of HPU for four years. Prof. Kiran Rekha is contributing effectively to administrative task committees made for effective management of academic activities and co-curricular functions of the university. She has been member of Academic Council of H. P. University, Shimla. Prof. Kiran Rekha is among the senior most permanent academic staff of UGC-HRDCs of the country, dedicated to professional development of college and university teachers.
